About NIMCET 2019

NIT MCA Common Entrance Test, commonly known as NIMCET, is a national level entrance exam conducted every year by one of the National Institutes of Technology (NITs). The admissions are given on merit basis to Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme across the NITs located in Agartala, Allahabad, Kurukshetra, Calicut, Raipur, Warangal, Surathkal, Durgapur, Trichy, Jamshedpur, Bhopal and Kurukshetra. NIMCET 2019 was held by NIT Surathkal on May 26. The application form of NIMCET 2019 was available from March 1-31. NIMCET admit card could be downloaded from May 13 to May 24 while the revised result was declared on June 9 and will be followed by counselling.

It is to be noted that NIMCET scores are also used by many universities and institutes for admissions to the MCA programmes offered by them.

B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons) / BCA / BIT of minimum three years with Maths or Statistics
 B.E./ B.Tech

Students who have studied B.Sc./ B.Sc. (Hons)/BCA/ BIT of 3 years from Open Universities which are recognized are also eligible

Pass Percentage

Gen/OBC Candidates - 60% marks in aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scales 

SC/ST Candidates - 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10-point scale 

Passing Year

Not later than 2019. Final year students can apply and must furnish proof of passing by September 15, 2019

Note: Final year students have to furnish a certificate issued by the Head of institution where the candidate has studied.

NIMCET application form 2019 was available in online mode from March 1. It could be filled till March 31, 2019. Candidates had to register first and fill all the details properly. The steps to fill the application form of NIMCET 2019 are

Step 1 - Registration: Candidates must enter their e-mail ID along with the 10-digit mobile number. A mail will be sent to the candidates for validation and creation of a unique password. Candidates must click on the given link to do so.

Step 2 - Fill the Application Form: Candidates must next fill the personal and academic details. Marks/ grades must be entered in the given space. Mandatory fields should not be ignored. A total of three exam centres must be chosen in the order of preference.

Step 3 –  Uploading documents: Relevant documents such as proof of identity, proof of date of birth (SSLC/ 10th Marks Card), all other marks cards etc. and the Category/ Caste/ PwD certificate(s) as applicable have to be uploaded. They should be duly self-attested and scanned in a file with a maximum size 500 KB. In addition, a recent colour photograph (of size between 50 KB and 150 KB), signature (in royal blue/ black colour only of size between 50 KB and 150 KB) must also be uploaded.

Step 4 – Payment of the application fees: Fee payment is online only through net banking or Credit/Debit Cards.

Step 5 -  Submission of the application and download of printout:  After the payment of the application fee, candidates must submit the application form of NIMCET. Thereafter they are advised to download and save the soft copy of the submitted application for their reference.

Important Note: Candidates must use only a black or blue ink ballpoint pen to mark their responses.

The NIMCET admit card could be downloaded on May 13. Candidates could not avail it by any other means. The admit card of NIMCET 2019 is an important identity document and must be carried to the exam hall else candidates will not be allowed to appear for the entrance test.

  • Candidates must login by entering their email ID and password.
  • The admit card will be displayed
  • Candidates must check the details in the same and if correct download it.
  • They must carry a copy of it on the day of the exam to the test centre.
  • The admit card will also be required during counselling and admission. Therefore candidates must keep it safe.

Candidates who have appeared for the exam could use the NIMCET answer key 2019 to check the correct answers and estimate their probable scores. The answer keys consist of the correct answers to the questions asked and will be separate for each set of question paper given in the exam hall. While the authorities generally do not release the answer key for NIMCET, various leading coaching centres like Jitendra Mishra Academy, Aspire etc release the answer keys based on the question papers.

The exam conducting NIT declared the revised result of NIMCET 2019 on June 9. Initially the result was declared on June 8, 2019 (not valid now). Candidates who appeared for the exam are able to know their rank as well as their qualifying status. Candidates need to login to access their result and download the rank card.

NIMCET 2019 Qualifying Criteria

The total weighted marks for NIMCET is 1000. The scores obtained by the candidates in each section will be multiplied by a factor as follows to arrive at a weighted score. The sum of the weighted scores will be the total weighted score obtained by the candidate. Ranks will be allotted to candidates according to the total weighted marks obtained by them. The higher the total weighted marks, the higher the rank obtained.

When two or more candidates obtain the same weighted scores, then the tie breaker guidelines will be

  • Maths marks of the candidates will be checked. The candidates with higher marks will be ranked higher.
  • If the tie still is unresolved, then the marks obtained in the Logical Reasoning section will be considered.  
  • In case of a further unresolved tie, the test-taker with higher marks in the Computer Awareness section will be given higher rank. 
  • Finally, the older candidate (as per date of birth)will be awarded the higher rank.

Candidates obtaining zero or negative score in the Math section or overall in all sections, will be considered disqualified.  

Mode of Counselling: Online, Offline

NIMCET Counselling 2019 is being conducted by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) from June 21.  Only qualified candidates can participate in the counselling. A total three rounds of counselling will be held. The steps to be followed in counselling are

Choice Filling: Candidates must login using email and password, fill choices of course and institute as per order of preference, lock the choices and  take a printout of the same.

Allotment: The authorities will allot the seats on the basis of the ranks obtained by the candidates, choice of course and institute opted for.

Reporting and Payment of Admission fee (part payment): Candidates who are allotted a seat will have to download the allotment letter and pay the part admission fee of Rs 10,000 online. They must report to the nearest reporting centre along with the payment receipt and the documents in original for verification. Subsequent to verification, they can opt for the below given choices.

Option-1 : Candidates may choose to keep the seat allotted to them. In such a case all their higher preference choices will be disregarded.

Option-2 : Candidates who wish to be considered for all of their higher preference choices  in the next round.
